Honoring Phil Zimmerman’s Volunteerism
We’re proud to spotlight the extraordinary change agents throughout our organization who exemplify our commitment to excellence. Their actions inspire positive transformation within our communities and among colleagues, embodying our core values at every turn.
April is National Volunteer Month, a time to reflect on the power of service and its positive impact on the world. At Acosta Group, we believe in the transformative power of giving back within our organization and the communities we serve.
For over 38 years, Acosta Group has partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, aiding its mission to empower those living with neuromuscular diseases. Our journey with MDA began in 1985 when Acosta, an Acosta Group sales agency, joined forces with leading consumer brands and retailers to launch the Aisles of Smiles campaign. Since then, our collective efforts have raised over $100 million to support muscular dystrophy research and treatment.
The success of our partnership with MDA wouldn’t be possible without the help of our associates. One such example is Phil Zimmerman, Acosta’s Director of the Albertsons team in the Pacific Northwest. Over the last 15 years, Phil has tirelessly volunteered his time and expertise spearheading the Aisles of Smiles initiative.
Through his dedication, Phil has played a pivotal role in raising millions for MDA and touching the lives of countless individuals and families affected by muscular dystrophy. This past December, Phil received MDA’s Volunteer Award for his years of partnership.
As Phil prepares for his upcoming retirement, his commitment to service remains unwavering. He even extended his final day of work at Acosta to coincide with an Aisles of Smiles event on May 17, 2024.
“Working with charities brings another dimension to your career. I would encourage my colleagues to include this in their future plans. It really makes a difference.”
As we honor Phil’s remarkable legacy of service and celebrate the many volunteers we have amongst Acosta Group associates, it’s important to remember the profound impact that each of us can make through volunteerism. We encourage everyone to give back to their community however they can. Our collective contributions have the power to create meaningful change.
